Public Proposal for Lifelong Learning Programs... Shift from Supplier-Centered to Learner-Centered Lifelong Learning System... Programs Proposed by Residents Selected to Encourage Active Learner Participation

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that from this year, residents will directly propose and select programs conducted at the Lifelong Learning Center.

Lifelong learning programs have been organized and operated by staff who consider residents' preferences to recruit participants. However, from the residents' perspective, the supplier-centered operation system was somewhat unsatisfactory.

In the past three years, the proportion of young participants (in their 20s and 30s) in lifelong learning programs was only 16%. Additionally, programs were concentrated in the cultural and artistic fields, highlighting the need to discover new programs.

The district decided to operate a public contest where residents can directly propose lifelong learning programs they want to learn. This aims to discover programs that meet actual learning demands and encourage active participation to increase satisfaction.

The contest will be held from January 15 to January 31, and the contest fields include six categories: basic literacy education, supplementary education, vocational skills education, cultural and artistic education, humanities and liberal arts education, and civic participation education.

Applicants must be residents, workers located in Geumcheon-gu, or nonprofit organizations and institutions within Geumcheon-gu. To apply, applicants can download the application form from the Geumcheon Education Portal and submit it via email or visit the Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center in person. Submitted programs will be reviewed, and about ten will be selected to operate at the Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center starting in March.

On the 12th and 13th of last month, the district held briefing sessions on the resident-proposed lifelong learning program contest to inform residents about the project purpose and proposal methods.
