Setting Preferred Reception Area in the 'Safe Stepping Stone' App
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 15th that by setting the desired region for receiving disaster messages in the 'Safe Stepping Stone' app, elderly users can receive disaster alerts for that specific area.
The 'Safe Stepping Stone' app provides a service that sends heavy snow and cold wave risk information to children or relatives living in other regions to protect elderly people who are not familiar with using mobile phones and may find it difficult to recognize dangerous situations through disaster messages.
Since May of last year, a feature allowing users to set the receiving area at the town, township, or neighborhood level has been added, and so far, 1.12 million regions have been set as preferred receiving areas.
To set the desired receiving area, install the 'Safe Stepping Stone' app on your smartphone, then go to the settings at the bottom of the app's home screen, select ▲Set Receiving Area ▲Change the setting from 'OFF' to 'ON' for the desired area ▲Add the region.
Lee Han-kyung, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters, said, "Elderly people who are not familiar with using mobile phones are relatively more at risk of safety accidents due to heavy snow and cold waves in winter," and added, "We hope you actively use this Safe Stepping Stone service to check on your parents and ensure safety during the winter season."
