The Busan City Construction Headquarters will implement traffic control at Jangsan 1 Tunnel (towards Songjeong) from January 16 to March 23 due to the installation of smoke extraction equipment.
This traffic control is being carried out to newly install smoke extraction equipment inside the tunnel. The construction will be undertaken by Hana Jeonseol.
Traffic control will be conducted on the downhill lanes (Suyeong → Songjeong) from January 16 to February 5 and from March 8 to March 23. To avoid traffic congestion during peak commuting hours, the control will take place for 7 hours from 10 PM to 5 AM the following day.
During this period, 1 to 2 of the 3 lanes on the downhill side of Jangsan 1 Tunnel will be controlled, while 1 lane will remain open for public use to minimize inconvenience to citizens.
Shim Seong-tae, head of the Busan City Construction Headquarters, stated, “Through this construction, we will install smoke extraction equipment to discharge toxic gases in case of fire inside the tunnel, providing a safe traffic environment for drivers using the tunnel. We plan to complete the work safely and quickly to shorten the traffic control period and minimize inconvenience to citizens. We ask for the active cooperation and understanding of all citizens regarding the traffic control.”
