Exchange 2 New Batteries When You Collect 20 Used Batteries Community Center Recycling Item Exchange

If you bring 20 used batteries, you can exchange them for 2 new batteries, and 30 transparent PET bottles can be exchanged for 1 volume-based waste bag.

‘1.5kg of paper packs’ can be exchanged for 1 roll of toilet paper and 1 volume-based waste bag, ‘20 used batteries’ for 2 new batteries, and ‘30 transparent PET bottles’ for 1 volume-based waste bag.

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will operate a ‘Recycling Exchange Day’ every Thursday starting from the 18th, where residents can bring recyclables to the community service centers and exchange them for daily necessities.

This project was established to increase recycling rates through active resident participation, promote waste separation, and practice carbon neutrality.

Used batteries and transparent PET bottles become valuable high-quality recycled materials when recycled, but recycling becomes difficult if they are disposed of mixed together.

Accordingly, the district has designated ‘every Thursday’ as Recycling Exchange Day and is promoting a project to exchange recyclables for daily necessities at community service centers.

The recyclables that can be exchanged are ▲paper packs ▲used batteries ▲transparent PET bottles.

Collected ‘1.5kg of paper packs’ can be exchanged for 1 roll of toilet paper and 1 volume-based waste bag, ‘20 used batteries’ for 2 new batteries, and ‘30 transparent PET bottles’ for 1 volume-based waste bag. However, the exchange is limited to a maximum of 200 used batteries and 120 transparent PET bottles per transaction.

The ‘Recycling Exchange Project,’ which started in 2017, has grown into a core resource circulation policy of Gwangjin-gu as recycling policies have been strengthened, such as the full implementation of separate collection of transparent PET bottles in 2021. Last year, about 74,000 people participated, collecting 23,875kg of paper packs, 17,019kg of used batteries, and 134,058kg of transparent PET bottles.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Reducing waste and recycling resources are both important,” and urged residents to “participate actively in Recycling Exchange Day and join in creating a healthy and carbon-neutral city.”
