Lee Nak-yeon Apologizes for Supporter's 'Knife Stab' Insult... Democratic Party Calls It "Vulgar Remarks"

Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, who left the party, expressed his apology regarding a remark made by one of his supporters at an event held by 'Pro-Nak (Pro-Lee Nak-yeon)' supporters concerning the stabbing attack on Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.

On the 13th, Lee issued a statement saying, "I heard that there were abusive remarks about Leader Lee at the Democratic Party departure event held by my supporters today," and added, "This is a very wrong act." He continued, "I strongly regret the remarks made by the person involved," and "I apologize to Leader Lee and the Democratic Party."

He also said, "I ask my supporters to be careful so that such an unfortunate incident does not happen again," and "It is right to maintain dignity under any circumstances."

Lee's supporters held a so-called 'Democratic Party Departure Commemoration Event' at the National Assembly that morning. Kim Nam-hoon, a former professional wrestler who now works as a columnist under the name 'Hunpro,' criticized the stabbing incident involving Leader Lee on the 2nd, saying, "In my life, this is the first time I have seen approval ratings drop after being 'stabbed in the neck.'

The Democratic Party strongly condemned this. Before Lee's apology statement was announced, spokesperson Kang Sun-woo said at a National Assembly briefing, "A supporter of former leader Lee made an inhumane remark about the political terror stabbing attack on Leader Lee, saying he was 'stabbed in the neck.'

She added, "It is deplorable that those who criticized the strong remarks of Lee Jae-myung’s supporters as a reason for leaving the party are now criticizing their former comrades and spouting extreme language that even far-right YouTubers do not use," and "Former leader Lee must not tolerate such low-quality, hateful slander."
