"Do You Know What Samsik Is?" What My Husband Heard in His First Week of Remote Work

Personnel Changes Lead Aiwi to Choose Remote Work
Wife Says "It's Annoying... Feels Like My Freedom Is Invaded"

Recently, a post titled "Wife Angry After One Week of Working from Home" was uploaded to an online community. A couple shared their conflicting opinions about lunch preparation issues caused by working from home and sought netizens' opinions.

According to the husband's post, due to a personnel transfer in January, he had to choose between working in a provincial office or working from home. Since they have a 6-year-old child at home, the husband decided to work from home.

The husband complained that he couldn't have a proper lunch while working from home. On the third day of working from home, when he asked his wife to "please prepare lunch," she replied, "Do you know what a 'samsik' is? Don't make things hard for me," and did not prepare a meal for him.

The husband said, "My wife takes the kids to school, leaves at 11 a.m., comes back at 3 p.m., and takes a nap. I finish work at 5 p.m., but she tells me to wash the kids because she has to prepare dinner. This has been repeating for a week."

He continued, "During the day, she goes out all the time, then at 5 p.m. she prepares dinner and does the laundry. I didn't know about her daytime routine until now, and I wonder if this is how she has been living. Working from home is not about playing around, but I feel pressured every time I come out to eat at noon."

The wife’s side stated that when she is alone, she either skips lunch or simply cooks ramen, but since the husband started working from home, she dislikes having to prepare proper meals. She explained that dividing housework between morning and afternoon is because of her weak physical strength.

She said, "During the day, I honestly rest by watching TV and using my phone. I also read books, lower the living room blinds, and watch movies. I even buy coffee from a cafe. But having someone in that room bothers me. It feels like my freedom is being invaded."

She added, "At noon, he asks me to prepare lunch. Even if I just skip side dishes and heat up soup, it’s still quite bothersome. I only have to make dinner once, but now I have to do it twice. Also, I leave at 11 a.m. because I need some time alone. Being outside is more comfortable."

The post has since been deleted. Most netizens responded by blaming the wife for the conflict. One netizen commented, "I understand feeling like your lifestyle is being invaded, but you shouldn’t scold your husband who is working from home, not playing around. The wife should also go out and work if that’s the case," and "If spending time together is such a burden, why did you get married?"
