Namdong-gu, Incheon, will significantly expand public parking lots to alleviate parking difficulties in the old downtown area. On the 12th, Namdong-gu announced that it plans to create and promote a total of 265 parking spaces across nine locations, including Mansu-dong, this year.
First, the expansion construction of Sorae No. 5 public parking lot (66-99 Nonhyeon-dong), which was promoted to solve parking difficulties around Sorae Port, will be completed in July. The district initially invested about 600 million KRW for 101 spaces and increased by 58 spaces to secure a total of 159 parking spaces.
Six public parking lots will open this year in Insu Village, Mansu 4-dong (67-6 Mansu-dong). The area had difficulty securing parking lots for several years due to the lack of suitable sites, but the district started creating small-scale parking lots immediately to alleviate residents' inconvenience.
Accordingly, a public parking lot with 15 spaces will first be created within the residential area (including 57-5 Mansu-dong), and a total project cost of 8.4 billion KRW will be invested to build five small-scale parking lots with a total of 51 spaces in various densely populated residential areas nearby, starting with completion in July and sequentially throughout the year.
The expansion construction of Mansu Bokgae 1 public parking lot (around 1003 Mansu-dong) will begin in March. With a combined national and city budget of 5.5 billion KRW, the project will add 84 spaces on two floors to the existing 138 spaces, minimizing inconvenience to residents and merchants during construction.
Also, the public parking lot around Suhyeon-ro (around 309 Mansu-dong) will undergo detailed design this year and is expected to start construction around July next year. This area has no public parking lots and a very poor parking environment with a nighttime parking supply rate of 13.6%. The project plans to secure 66 parking spaces with a budget of 1.9 billion KRW.
Park Jong-hyo, mayor of Namdong-gu, said, "We plan to significantly expand public parking lots to solve the chronic parking difficulties in the old downtown and improve traffic accident risk factors in child protection zones. Although it is difficult to secure sites within the city, we will do our best to alleviate residents' daily inconveniences."
