From this year until 2027, over four years, projects such as the installation of a fishing village care station, residential station, and reform station (shellfish shell processor), as well as improvements to village alleyway landscapes will be carried out.

Additionally, various projects tailored to the characteristics of Hajon Area, based on its natural ecological resources, will be implemented, including safety monitoring facilities, wireless broadcasting systems, tractor parking lots, and maintenance of Yonggi Port.

The Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a flagship national policy initiative by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries that supports the improvement of living conditions in fishing villages by creating residential infrastructure and cultural welfare facilities for fishing village living areas to attract youth and returnees to fishing villages.

The project consists of three types: economic infrastructure, living infrastructure, and safety infrastructure.

Earlier, after submitting a preliminary plan in October last year, Hajon Area was finally selected in the fishing village living infrastructure (platform) project category following document and on-site evaluations.

Hajon Area in Gochang is the main production site of 50% of the domestic clam production and possesses abundant ecological resources such as the Gochang mudflat, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

Sim Deok-seop, the county governor, said, “This is another great achievement in coastal development following the Gochang Comprehensive Theme Park and the Gochang Mudflat Regional Center,” adding, “We will do our best to create a vibrant fishing village by improving the living environment and establishing fishery infrastructure through the Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project.”
