The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has signed a "Korea-US Scientific and Technological Scientists Mutual Exchange and Cooperation Agreement" with the Silicon Valley chapter of the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA SVC).
On the 9th (local time), the Suwon delegation, including Mayor Lee Jae-jun, explained the Suwon Gwanggyo Bio Innovation Valley development project to KSEA SVC at Stanford University located in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, USA, and announced the signing of this agreement on the 10th. Established in 1971, KSEA SVC has about 7,000 researchers active in fields such as science, medicine, and engineering.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will collaborate in various areas including ▲supporting activities to attract advanced industry companies and investments such as the development of Suwon Gwanggyo Bio Innovation Valley ▲supporting activities to revitalize the association such as conferences and seminars organized by KSEA SVC ▲promoting scientific and technological exchanges between Korea and the United States.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "Suwon is creating an environment where future advanced science industries such as the semiconductor and bio industries can grow," and proposed, "The city and KSEA SVC should continue to exchange and cooperate and soon promote practical projects."
The Suwon delegation visited GeneEdit, a bio company founded by Korean scientists that possesses platform technology capable of delivering gene therapies to specific tissues, toured the facilities, and held a meeting with Senior Vice President Park Hyo-min.
They also met with Choi Jong-ung, chairman of Incord, an energy data platform company established in 2013, to discuss energy democracy and carbon neutrality.
The Suwon delegation departed on the 7th and plans to visit San Francisco, Las Vegas, and the sister city Phoenix over a 7-night, 9-day schedule.
