Who Are the Glorious Heroes Who Shined in Gangdong-gu?

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced that at the Gangdong-gu New Year's Meeting held on the 3rd, the 32nd Gangdong Citizen Awards were presented to recipients in six categories who have brought honor to Gangdong.


Now in its 32nd year, the Gangdong Citizen Awards have been recognizing citizens who bring hope and inspiration to the local community in various fields since 1992. The Gangdong Citizen Awards are the most prestigious awards in Gangdong-gu, enhancing the pride of the recipients and serving as role models for the residents.


The awardees are selected in six categories: ▲Social Development & Service (organizations and individuals), ▲Environment, ▲Filial Piety & Good Deeds, ▲Culture & Sports, ▲Economic Development, and ▲Education. From October last year, candidates were recommended for about seven weeks in each category and selected through a fair evaluation by the Public Merit Review Committee.


This year’s recipients are ▲Social Development & Service (organization) Gangdong Disabled Association (President Park Geun-yong), ▲Social Development & Service (individual) Shin Dong-seon, ▲Environment Im Ji-hoon, ▲Filial Piety & Good Deeds Woo Hyo-in, ▲Culture & Sports Choi Seok-myung, ▲Economic Development Korea Comprehensive Technology (President Kim Chi-heon), and ▲Education Kim Dae-yang.


First, the Gangdong Disabled Association was selected in the Social Development & Service (organization) category for its dedication to improving the rights and welfare of disabled persons in the district and contributing to the social development of Gangdong-gu.


Shin Dong-seon, selected in the Social Development & Service (individual) category, was honored for his long-term volunteer work, caring for neighbors in need, and fostering a warm community spirit.


In the Environment category, Im Ji-hoon was chosen for his various activities toward realizing a carbon-neutral society and contributing to making Gangdong-gu an eco-friendly, carbon-neutral district.


Woo Hyo-in, selected in the Filial Piety & Good Deeds category, was recognized for caring for three family members with dementia over a long period while also practicing many good deeds and volunteer work for neighbors in need, contributing to the spread of filial piety and good deeds culture in Gangdong-gu.


In the Culture & Sports category, Choi Seok-myung was selected for his long-term activities and support in the Gangdong cultural community, greatly contributing to the promotion and development of local culture and arts.


In the Economic Development category, Korea Comprehensive Technology was honored for its contributions to revitalizing the local economy by playing a leading role in social contribution activities within the district since moving into the Gangdong Advanced Business Complex in 2014, alongside the company’s growth.


Finally, in the Education category, Kim Dae-yang was selected for his long-term dedication to the education sector and contributions to fostering a sound educational culture in Gangdong-gu.


Mayor Lee Soo-hee congratulated the awardees, saying, “I sincerely congratulate the citizens who have served the community and brought hope and inspiration. We will continue to actively discover residents who quietly serve in unseen places and do our best to make Gangdong-gu a warm and hopeful community.”
