Amnok Crab and Euneogeori, Areas Along the Seomjin Riverbanks
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it won the Encouragement Award in the premium project evaluation for the Namdo Food Culture Street aimed at building food tourism infrastructure and attracting tourists.
This evaluation selected excellent local governments through assessments of 12 indicators in four categories: promotion plans, budget securing, project implementation, and street promotion, targeting Namdo Food Culture Streets established in 15 cities and counties.
Currently, Gokseong-gun's Namdo Food Culture Street has 13 restaurants handling freshwater crab and silver fish dishes, selected in 2016 as part of Jeollanam-do's "Namdo Food Street" creation contest project. It operates a complex rest area that provides tourists with both food and sightseeing, including park development, installation of symbolic sculptures of freshwater crab and silver fish, photo zones, and storyboards.
To revitalize the freshwater crab and silver fish street, Gokseong-gun secured a budget and promoted maintenance projects, adding additional guide signs and improving surrounding facilities. It has also worked hard to promote the Namdo Food Culture Street and Gokseong-gun’s representative foods to visiting tourists by operating festival-linked promotion booths, broadcasting promotional videos, website promotion, and utilizing SNS.
Additionally, Gokseong-gun and the merchants' association held meetings to conduct hygiene and hospitality education for business owners and workers, park cleaning, and landscape maintenance activities. They actively engaged in attracting tourists by producing and distributing leaflets, promotional items, and hygiene supplies.
A Gokseong-gun official said, “The county and the merchants' association will continue to communicate in 2024 and make every effort to revitalize the Namdo Food Culture Street and contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.”
