Among 49 Local Governments Nationwide, 6 Selected as Best ... Guro-gu Only Seoul District
Ministerial Commendation Awarded for Securing 800 Million KRW in National Funding
Guro-gu received the highest rating in the performance evaluation of the '2023 Youth Challenge Support Project' conducted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
Among the 49 local governments nationwide implementing the Youth Challenge Support Project, only six institutions were selected as the best, and Guro-gu is the only autonomous district in Seoul to receive this distinction.
The Youth Challenge Support Project provides customized programs such as close counseling, confidence recovery, career exploration, employment competency enhancement, external linkage activities, and region-specific programs to young people who have given up on job searching, aiming to boost their motivation to seek employment and assist their social advancement.
Guro-gu partnered with Cheongnyeon Irum and operated 5-week and 5-month courses over the past year, exceeding the target number of 120 participants and producing a total of 133 graduates, with 35 successfully finding employment.
As a result of the highest evaluation, Guro-gu secured 800 million KRW in national funding and will be able to continue the Youth Challenge Support Project for four consecutive years. Additionally, on the 3rd, it will receive a ministerial citation at the Gwanak branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
Guro-gu is recruiting 40 participants for this year’s first challenge program.
The target participants are young people aged 18 to 34 who have no history of employment, education, or vocational training participation in the past six months.
The program will be held from February 2 to March 8 at Cheongnyeon Irum located near Cheonwang Station. Participants who complete the 5-week course, including one-on-one counseling and career planning lectures, will receive a participation allowance of 500,000 KRW.
Those interested can apply on the Worknet website from the 18th of this month to the 1st of next month. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
A Guro-gu official stated, “We will do our best this year as well to be a stepping stone for young people who are struggling alone to move forward into society.”
