1 Year After 50,000 Cases Certification in 2022
Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic has achieved a total of 70,000 SMILE LASIK surgeries since introducing the procedure in 2013.
This milestone was reached just over a year after receiving certification for 50,000 surgeries in 2022, and it is known to be an exceptionally high number for a single ophthalmology clinic nationwide.
Additionally, in 2019, the German Zeiss headquarters awarded the clinic the nationwide first-ever ‘Leading SMILE Center’ plaque and the ‘Best Skilled Surgeon in SMILE’ award.
SMILE LASIK is a vision correction surgery that combines the advantages of LASIK and LASEK. It uses a laser that operates in trillionths of a second to remove corneal stroma through a 1 to 2 mm micro-incision, correcting the vision.
Because the corneal stroma must be separated through a small incision, the surgery requires precise work, so it is essential to verify the medical staff’s experience and skill level before undergoing SMILE LASIK.
Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic has introduced SMILE Pro, which uses the upgraded VisuMax 800 equipment compared to the previously used VisuMax 500 for SMILE LASIK.
SMILE Pro has a laser irradiation speed of under 10 seconds, reducing surgery time by more than three times, allowing for faster recovery. It is equipped with an astigmatism axis rotation correction device and an eye-tracking system, enabling more accurate and safer surgery.
Chief Director Kim Jaebong stated, “We will not be complacent with the achievement of 70,000 eyes and will do our best to enhance customer satisfaction and surgical outcomes.”
