100 Million Won Donation Saved from Basic Livelihood Expenses "Hope Lonely People Enjoy Even for a Moment..."
Lee Soon-hee, Gangbuk District Mayor: "Donation Made Despite Difficult Circumstances Is Greater and More Precious Than Any Sharing"
Ryu Chuja, an 80-year-old basic livelihood security recipient living in Beondong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee), is warming the bodies and hearts of citizens frozen by the cold with her good deeds.
Grandmother Ryu, who lives alone, visited the Gangbuk-gu Mayor's Office on the 27th and donated 1 million won, asking that it be used to help neighbors in need. The donation is especially meaningful as it was prepared from the living expenses she carefully saved, penny by penny, from the basic livelihood security benefits she receives without any other source of income.
Grandmother Ryu said she decided to donate for the sake of neighbors who are struggling and lonely, thinking of her husband who passed away 30 years ago. Her husband was a Korean War veteran.
Ryu Chuja said, "It is already hard to have nothing, but especially during holidays, I hope those who spend time alone at home can enjoy delicious food and have a joyful time, even if just for a moment."
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, expressed gratitude, saying, "This donation, made despite difficult circumstances, is greater and more precious than any other sharing. We will warmly deliver Grandmother Ryu Chuja’s sincerity along with warm hearts to our neighbors who are struggling and lonely around us."
