Russia launches largest airstrike since Ukraine invasion at year-end: "122 missiles fired"

The Russian military launched large-scale airstrikes across Ukraine, resulting in over 100 casualties.

On the 29th (local time), according to AFP, Russia carried out airstrikes on Ukraine's capital Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and other areas.

The Ukrainian prosecutor's office reported that 16 people were killed and 97 injured due to the bombings. Local media reported that at least 18 civilians died.

Ukrainian authorities announced that Russia fired 122 missiles and 36 drones in a single day. Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, stated on Telegram, "This airstrike is the largest since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year." The previous largest airstrike occurred in November 2022, when Russia launched 96 missiles.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, said on the social networking service X, "Russia deployed almost every type of missile in its arsenal, including ballistic and cruise missiles."

Casualties continue to mount. In the capital Kyiv, one person was reported dead. Additionally, a warehouse building collapsed due to the airstrike, burying 10 people under the rubble. At least one person died in Kharkiv, where hospitals and residential buildings were damaged. In Odesa, three people died, and in Dnipro, five people were killed. In the western Lviv region near the Polish border, a building collapsed due to bombing, killing one person.
