On the 20th, at the Westin Chosun Busan, two teams composed of students from the Department of Visual Design at Silla University achieved the great feat of both receiving encouragement awards for participating in the ‘2023 Regional Industry-Academia Cooperation Performance Sharing Conference’ hosted by Busan City and Busan Technopark through the ‘Regional Issue Resolution University Class Support Project’.

The ‘Regional Issue Resolution University Class Support Project’ is a project that lays the foundation for small-scale regional innovation by exploring the problem-solving process of professors and students regarding local community issues through university classes. It is designed to enhance students’ planning and execution skills to resolve regional issues.

The award-winning teams in this project were the team of students Kim Seung, Lee Yoon-jun, and Lee Na-young, who increased corporate value through brand design for the hair treatment specialist brand ‘Shocking On Hair,’ and the team of students Lee Soo-jung, Lee Kyung-ha, and Park Soo-hyun, who handled brand design for the design-led manufacturer ‘Modern Intech.’ Both teams carried out the project through the Department of Visual Design’s ‘Identity Design II’ course.

The ‘Identity Design II’ course in the Department of Visual Design at Silla University aims to raise awareness of design value for small and medium-sized enterprises located in Sasang-gu, restore the value of corporate brands, and cultivate talents who can contribute to regional development after graduation by having students gain practical field experience through producing design deliverables and exhibitions of corporate brands. Professor Kim Mi-kyung, who is in charge of the course, received a plaque of appreciation in recognition of these contributions.

Professor Kim Mi-kyung of the Department of Visual Design at Silla University stated, “I believe this project provided an opportunity for students to gain practical field education by experiencing the production of design deliverables and exhibitions for regional brands.” She added, “As a practice-oriented design education course linked with companies, it cultivates practical design skills through a professional identity design production process. Since all participating companies plan to use the design deliverables, I think the students’ sense of achievement will be high, and I will continue to strive to help many students feel a sense of accomplishment in the future.”
