Ministry of Science and ICT Announces Informatization Statistical Survey

It was found that 3 out of 10 domestic companies utilize artificial intelligence (AI).

According to the "2023 Informatization Statistical Survey" released on the 28th by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA), about 28% of businesses with 10 or more employees reported adopting AI technologies or services. This figure is more than 11 times higher than the response rate (2.5%) in the 2020 survey.

By company size, the AI utilization rate was highest among large companies with 250 or more employees at 36.4%, while companies with 50 to 249 employees (21.2%) had a lower utilization rate than those with fewer than 50 employees (28.8%).

In terms of AI application areas, image recognition and processing accounted for the largest share at 69.4%, followed by decision support (50.3%), document creation and information gathering (30.4%), and work automation support (24.8%).

Regarding cloud computing, 69.5% of businesses with 10 or more employees reported using it, with usage concentrated in email (80.9%), enterprise resource planning (ERP) software (52.5%), and office software (49.0%).

Internet of Things (IoT) devices and services were used by 53.2% of businesses with 10 or more employees.

While computer ownership and internet usage rates were 100%, the proportion of employees who reported using computers and the internet for work was only 66.8% and 65.1%, respectively.

70.2% of businesses with 10 or more employees operated websites such as homepages, and 94.9% utilized e-government services.

Businesses operating remote work (smart work) accounted for 18.8% of the total.

The Informatization Statistical Survey is a nationally approved statistic conducted annually to understand the informatization status of Korean businesses, targeting businesses with 10 or more employees and surveying informatization usage levels as of the end of the previous year.

This year's survey covered 35 indicators across four areas?intelligent information technology utilization, informatization infrastructure, informatization applications, and informatization investment and effects?based on a sample of 12,500 businesses out of approximately 211,075 private sector businesses with 10 or more employees.
