GS25, 4 Cans for 12,000 Won → 3 Cans for 9,000 Won
Convenience Store Breaks 10-Year 4-Can Promotion Rule
GS25 announced on the 28th that it will change its imported beer promotion, which had been offering 4 cans for 10,000 won for 10 years, to 3 cans starting next year. The price will be 9,000 won for 3 cans.
This measure was taken considering that the price exceeding 10,000 won increased the burden felt by consumers and that consumption trends are changing. GS25 first launched the imported beer 4 cans for 10,000 won promotion in 2014. The imported beer 4 cans promotion, which has established itself as a representative convenience store event for over 10 years, recently increased to 11,000 won last year and 12,000 won this year due to inflation. Additionally, consumers are rapidly shifting from bulk purchases in the past to smaller quantity purchases.
The increasing number of single-person households, the main customer base of convenience stores, also played a role in planning this promotion. According to the Statistics Korea KOSIS data, the number of single-person households reached 7.5 million last year, accounting for 34.5% of all households. Compared to 8 years ago in 2015, the number increased by 2.3 million households, and the proportion rose by 7.3 percentage points.
The imported beer promotion of 3 cans for 9,000 won, starting from the first day of the new year, applies a price of 3,000 won per can when purchasing 3 or more cans based on 500mL. For example, 4 cans cost 12,000 won, and 5 cans cost 15,000 won. The small beer cans (330~355mL) promotion changes from the existing 5 cans for 12,000 won to 4 cans for 9,000 won.
Ahn Jae-sung, MD of the Liquor Team at GS Retail, said, “In response to changes in the market situation, we have revamped the beer promotion, which had been formalized for about 10 years, to enable more efficient events.” He added, “We will continue to introduce various promotions and products that can provide real benefits to customers.”
