Gyeonggi-do to Hold Public Hearing on Urban Rail Network Plan on 27th... 12 Lines, 104.48km Public Hearing on Gyeonggi-do Urban Railway Network Construction Plan Held on the 27th

Gyeonggi Province held a public hearing on the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (Draft)" at the Suwon Convention Center on the 27th.


The 2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (Draft) is a project designed with the vision of "Opening the Era of Neighborhood Railways," aiming at three main goals: ▲reducing commuting time ▲increasing the railway transport share ▲improving railway accessibility. It covers a total of 12 lines spanning 104.48 km, with 3 lines totaling 37.19 km proposed as candidate lines.


The 12 reflected lines include Suwon Urban Railway Line 1, Dongbaek Sinbong Line, Yongin Line Gwanggyo Extension, Gajwa Siksa Line, Daegok Goyang City Hall Siksa Line, Moran Pangyo Line, Pangyo Opo Line, Seongnam Urban Railway Lines 1 and 2, Wolgot Baegot Line, Gimpo Gold Line Hakun Extension, and Deokjeong Okjeong Line (listed in order of city/county administrative system).


The candidate lines proposed are Byeongjeom Bongdam Line, Songnae Bucheon Line, and Smart Hub Line.


Gyeonggi Province expects that if the 2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (Draft) proceeds as planned, railway access will improve in 144 administrative neighborhoods, and the railway modal share will increase from 14.0% in 2019 to 19.9% in 2030, a 5.9 percentage point rise, resulting in an annual reduction of 113,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the transportation sector.


Ku Ja-gun, Director of the Railway Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "After comprehensive review of the submitted opinions, we plan to report to the Provincial Council and then apply for approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. We will do our best to ensure that the '2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (Draft)' is approved by the Ministry as originally proposed."


Opinions on the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (Draft)" disclosed at this public hearing can be submitted via email until January 3rd of next year.


Upon receiving the approval application, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will request an appropriateness review from a specialized research institute, consult with relevant administrative agencies, coordinate and review through the Urban Transportation Policy Working Committee, and finalize the plan through deliberation by the National Transportation Committee before officially announcing it.
