The government appointed Song Myung-dal, Director of the Marine Policy Office at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on the 27th.
Song Myung-dal, the newly appointed Vice Minister, was born in 1966 and graduated from Yeongju Jungang High School and the Department of Political Science at Seoul National University. He holds a master's degree in Public Administration from the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University and a master's degree in International Transport from Cardiff University in the UK.
Vice Minister Song entered public service in 1995 by passing the 39th Administrative Examination. He has held key positions such as Director of the Marine Environment Division at the Marine Policy Office of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, spokesperson, and Director of the Marine Policy Office. He also served as Head of the Port Logistics Division at the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, at the 2012 Yeosu World Expo Organizing Committee, and as First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in China.
Having held major posts within the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Vice Minister Song is known to be highly trusted within the ministry, having been selected in 2020 as the ‘Top Captain,’ an executive official chosen by employees as the ‘most desirable leader to work with.’
