Successful Completion of the Boseong Tea Industry Development Academic Conference

Activation of Powdered Green Tea Exports and Directions for Promoting the Tea Industry

Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it held the ‘2023 Boseong Tea Industry Development Academic Conference’ at the Jaeamsan Natural Recreation Forest Forest Education Center, with about 100 participants including academics, tea-related organizations, and tea culture enthusiasts.


This academic conference was organized to revitalize the Boseong tea industry and expand tea cultural activities, which had been contracted due to COVID-19, and to create an atmosphere leading the promotion of Boseong tea by encouraging tea producers and tea cultural organizations.

On this day, the ‘2023 Boseong Tea Industry Development Academic Conference’ was hosted by the Boseong Tea Culture Research Association (President Jo Ki-jung) and supported by Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do Tea Industry Research Institute, Mokpo National University, Boseong Tea Producers Association, and Boseong Tea Culture Association.


The event proceeded with research and discussions on the present and future of Boseong tea production. Academic presentations were made on topics such as △Response strategies to activate exports of powdered green tea from Boseongsan (Professor Lee Joo-hyun, Gyeongsang National University), cultivation and shading cultivation methods for tea trees in response to climate change (Dr. Shim Doo-bo, Hadong Green Tea Research Institute), current status of new-style tea beverages in China and development directions for Jeollanam-do tea industry (Dr. Kim Eun-hye, Jeollanam-do Tea Industry Research Institute), and key promotion directions for the tea industry advancement project (Son Yeon-ji, Head of Tea Industry Team, Boseong-gun).


At the ‘Beautiful Tea Ceremony Contest,’ held with the meaning of soaring like a blue dragon for Boseong’s tea industry and culture, the gold prize was awarded to Son Myung-ja, the silver prize to Yang Chung-nam and Park Yeon-hee, and the bronze prize to Lee Eun-ja, Kim In-sook, and Lee Jong-boon.


In addition, a recreational event hosted by a professional MC created a rich tea culture gathering where tea culture enthusiasts and academics mingled through tea as a medium.


A Boseong-gun official said, “Through this academic conference, we will establish the historical and cultural value of tea and further enhance the status and value of Boseong tea.” He added, “We will frequently create opportunities for tea people and academics to come together and strive for popularization and globalization so that Boseong’s tea industry and tea culture permeate the public.”


Meanwhile, Boseong-gun has been recognized for its operational achievements in attracting companies linked to green tea, increasing residents’ income, and revitalizing the local economy, receiving the Prime Minister’s Group Award in 2012, 2014, and 2019 as an excellent special zone. In 2018, the ‘Boseong Traditional Tea Agricultural System’ was designated as National Important Agricultural Heritage No. 11, acknowledging its historical significance, excellence, and value as a livelihood means for residents.
