Fostering Pride Among Veterans
Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) has completed the renovation and repair work of the 6.25 War Veterans Memorial Monument located within the Ssampji Park in Giryong-ri, Jangan-eup.
The 6.25 War Veterans Memorial Monument is a monument engraved with the names of 1,263 veterans from Gijang-gun who participated in the Korean War, established on December 17, 2018, to honor the veterans and foster a spirit of patriotism among local residents. It has been designated as an official national memorial facility by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
Due to aging facilities and subsidence around the site causing difficulties for visitors, the county invested 94 million KRW of public funds to carry out maintenance work including the monument structure (monument railings, flower vases, etc.), installation of flagpoles, and surrounding ground repairs, completing the project on the 14th.
A county official stated, “By renovating the 6.25 War Veterans Memorial and its surroundings, we have enhanced the pride of the veterans and created an environment where visitors can comfortably pay their respects. We will actively support efforts to ensure that future generations remember the sacrifice and dedication of the veterans.”
Gijang-gun has also strengthened the treatment of national veterans by being the first in Busan to establish a spouse allowance for war veterans, accepting pre-applications from November 1, and starting monthly payments of 50,000 KRW from January 2024.
