Gumi City in Gyeongbuk visited 'Olgot' (located in Sandong-eup, Gumi) and held a meeting with the company representative to ensure a stable supply of Gumi rice and resolve corporate difficulties.

During the meeting, they discussed finding investment companies to alleviate the shortage of operating funds due to Olgot's business expansion and practical support measures.

Accordingly, the city plans to swiftly prepare substantial measures such as financial support for small and medium enterprises (interest subsidy), export insurance fees, and logistics costs.

Olgot uses 140 tons (400 million KRW) of rice produced in Gumi, the main ingredient of gimbap, per month. The city is also discussing contract farming plans with company officials to use local agricultural products for other gimbap ingredients such as carrots, burdock, spinach, and pickled radish.

In August, Olgot made a big hit by selling out 1 million frozen gimbap (250 tons) exported to the United States for the first time within a month, and it is highly likely to grow significantly due to the influx of orders.

A company official stated, “Due to the surge in demand, we recently expanded from one production line to two lines, and next year, we plan to add nine more lines and complete a second factory to operate a total of 23 lines.”

Once all 23 lines are fully operational, it is expected to consume nearly 20,000 tons of rice annually. They also plan to hire about 1,000 more employees, contributing to regional economic development through job creation.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “I realize the significant impact food companies have on the local economy and agriculture, and we will actively discover promising food companies so that second and third Olgots can emerge.”

Olgot also received the Market Development Award at the ‘K-Food+ Export Tower’ ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 19th, in recognition of its contribution to pioneering overseas markets through frozen gimbap in 2023.
