Nominee for Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), Kim Hong-il, stated on the 27th that "a two-person system at the KCC can also conduct deliberations and resolutions."
On the same day, during a confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly, Kim responded this way when Jang Kyung-tae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, asked, "What do you think about operating under a two-person system?"
Kim added, "Putting aside whether it is desirable, I believe there is no legal issue." In response, Assemblyman Jang pointed out that operating the KCC, a collegiate body, under a two-person system was the reason for the impeachment of former KCC Commissioner Lee Dong-gwan.
Regarding Kim's late resignation from the position of Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, he said it was "to minimize any work gaps."
When Assemblyman Jang asked why a private farewell ceremony was held, Kim replied, "I never told the staff not to announce it," and added, "Later, I deliberately instructed them to distribute a press release."
Assemblyman Jang also intensely questioned Kim about his record during his time as a prosecutor. Kim investigated whether former President Lee Myung-bak owned shares in the auto parts company DAS during his presidential candidacy but concluded with a decision of no charges. After Lee took office, he awarded Kim a Medal of Mourning.
Regarding this, Kim explained, "The Medal of Mourning is given to public officials with over 15 years of service," and speculated that his 22 years as a prosecutor was likely the reason he received the medal.
