149 Dragon Zodiac CEOs Among Top 1000 Companies

Kim Seung-yeon, chairman of Hanwha Group, emerged as the richest stockholder born in the Year of the Dragon. Including family members of conglomerate heads, there were 88 stockholders born in the Year of the Dragon holding stocks worth over 10 billion KRW, and 149 CEOs of the top 1000 companies by sales were born in the Year of the Dragon, including Jang Jae-hoon, president of Hyundai Motor Company.
On the 27th, Korea CXO Research Institute, a corporate analysis specialist, announced the results of its survey on "Stock Rich Individuals and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) Born in the Year of the Dragon in Listed Companies." CEO refers to the representative directors of the top 1000 listed companies.
According to the survey, as of the closing price on the 22nd, there were 88 stockholders born in the Year of the Dragon with stock valuations exceeding 10 billion KRW.
The largest group was those born in 1964, with 35 people (39.8%). They were followed by those born in 1952 (26 people, 29.5%), 1976 (22 people, 25%), 1940 (3 people, 3.4%), and those born in 1928 and 1988 (1 person each, 1.1%). The person born in 1928 is Jang In-soon, the largest shareholder of Korean Re, and the one born in 1988 is Kim Dae-heon, Chief Planning Officer of Hoban Group.
The richest individual was Kim Seung-yeon, born in 1952, with a stock valuation of 435.4 billion KRW. There were 21 stockholders born in the Year of the Dragon with stock assets exceeding 100 billion KRW. The largest numbers were those born in 1952 and 1964, with 8 people each.
Among those born in 1952, notable figures include Kim Jong-won, chairman of Wontec (275.3 billion KRW), Lee Jang-han, chairman of Chong Kun Dang (261.6 billion KRW), and Nam Seung-woo, chairman of Pulmuone's board (228.8 billion KRW). Those born in 1964 include Kang Jung-seok, chairman of Dong-A Socio Holdings (342.9 billion KRW), and Choi Chang-won, vice chairman of SK Discovery (307 billion KRW).
Among executives with assets between 10 billion and 100 billion KRW, some held chairman titles. Those born in 1940 include Jang Hong-sun, chairman of Geukdong Petrochemical (33.5 billion KRW), and Heo Jin-gyu, chairman of Iljin Group (14.4 billion KRW). Those born in 1952 include Kim Eung-sang, chairman of Hanong Chemical (82.4 billion KRW), and Kim Young-hoon, chairman of Daesung Group (68.6 billion KRW). Those born in 1964 include Yoon Seok-min, chairman of TY Holdings (70.5 billion KRW), and Kim Woo-taek, chairman of NEW (47.4 billion KRW). Among those born in 1976, Lee Seung-chan, chairman of Gyeryong Construction Industry (29.7 billion KRW), was included.
Major female stockholders born in the Year of the Dragon with assets exceeding 10 billion KRW were identified as Kim Jung-soo, vice chairman of Samyang Foods (born 1964, 71.3 billion KRW), Yoon Yeo-won, CEO of Kolmar BNH (born 1976, 60.3 billion KRW), Yoon Jeong-seon, CEO of Sungbo Chemical (born 1976, 20.5 billion KRW), Lee Mi-yeon, CEO of Eugene Technology (born 1976, 16.6 billion KRW), and Lee Eun-jung, CEO of Korea McNulty (born 1964, 13.8 billion KRW).
According to the semi-annual report (as of June 30), there were 1,371 CEOs of the top 1000 listed companies by sales. Among them, 149 were executives born in the Year of the Dragon. The distribution was 116 born in 1964 (77.9%), 17 born in 1952 (11.4%), 14 born in 1976 (9.4%), and 2 born in 1940 (1.3%).
CEOs born in 1964 included Jang Jae-hoon, president of Hyundai Motor Company; Hong Won-hak, president of Samsung Life Insurance; Jung Hae-rin, president of Samsung C&T Corporation; Noh Sam-seok, president of Hanjin; Lee Gu-young and Nam Yi-hyun, CEOs of Hanwha Solutions; Kim Hoe-eon, CEO of HDC Hyundai Development Company; Jung Il-taek, president of Kumho Tire; Park Hong-jin, president of Hyundai Green Food; and Choi Nak-hyun, CEO of Samyang Corporation.
CEOs born in 1940 included Kim Jae-su, CEO of Dongyang E&P, and Jang Hong-sun, CEO of Geukdong Petrochemical. Those born in 1952 included Jeon Jang-yeol, chairman of Kumkang Industrial; Choi Myung-bae, chairman of YIK; and Lee I-moon, vice chairman of Korea Steel. Those born in 1976 included Kim Ik-hwan, vice chairman of Hansae Co., Ltd.; Kang Won-ho, CEO of Korea United Pharm; and Jung Yoo-seok, president of Ilyang Pharmaceutical.
