The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has trained over 22,000 'Saebit Safety Keepers' capable of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in emergency situations throughout this year.
On the 27th, Suwon announced that to strengthen citizens' disaster response capabilities, 22,677 people completed the Saebit Safety Keeper training this year, which included CPR practice conducted by experts as part of citizen education.
Earlier, on February 3rd, Suwon held the launch ceremony for Saebit Safety Keepers and announced a plan to train more than 62,500 people, equivalent to 5% of the population, as Saebit Safety Keepers by 2026.
The Saebit Safety Keeper training mainly covers practical content applicable in the field, such as safety education tailored to various situations, emergency response methods, CPR practice, and the use of automated external defibrillators.
Individuals or groups could apply for on-site training, and permanent training centers were also opened at the Suwon Citizens' Hall and Suwon Traffic Safety Education Center. In addition, in-house instructors who completed the general CPR instructor training course conducted small-scale training sessions, striving to train as many Saebit Safety Keepers as possible who can save lives.
This year, Suwon trained 15,442 Saebit Safety Keepers through 571 in-house training sessions. Including collaborative training with fire stations and others (255 sessions, 7,235 people), a total of 826 training sessions produced 22,677 Saebit Safety Keepers. This exceeded 80% of the annual goal of 12,500 people.
Next year, Suwon plans to expand its in-house Saebit Safety Keeper training to train more than 18,000 Saebit Safety Keepers.
A Suwon city official stated, "CPR is no longer an optional skill but a mandatory subject that everyone must learn and repeatedly practice regularly until it becomes second nature," and urged, "Please participate actively in Saebit Safety Keeper training to protect your precious family and neighbors."
