Lifestyle-Oriented Sales to Reduce New Year's Grocery Price Burden

Shinsegae Group announced on the 27th that it will hold a week-long integrated on- and offline group event called '2024 DAY1' from the 30th of this month to January 5th next year.


DAY1 is an integrated event designed to offer great benefits to customers from the beginning of the new year. The '2024 DAY1' event, now in its third edition, features participation from seven companies including Emart, SSG.com, Gmarket, W Concept, Emart24, Everyday, and Shinsegae L&B (Wine & More). The slogan for this event is a lifestyle-oriented sale. Given the ongoing difficult economic conditions and high inflation, the goal is to significantly reduce the burden of rising grocery prices on consumers starting from the new year.

Offline affiliates are focusing special discount events during the early part of the event, specifically over the three-day holiday. Emart will offer up to 50% discounts and 1+1 deals on key products such as fresh and processed foods from December 30 to January 1. During the same period, a pack of strawberries (500g) will be discounted by 3,000 won when Shinsegae points are used, and a box of Shine Muscat grapes (1.5 kg) will be sold for 13,900 won. For popular items like Korean beef, a 40% discount will be offered on all brand Korean beef (refrigerated) products from December 29 to January 4, one day before the main DAY1 event, when paid in full with event cards.


Discounts on processed foods will also be available. From December 31 to January 1, all bagged ramen products will be offered at 9,900 won for any three selected items regardless of brand or price, CJ and Ottogi instant rice products will be discounted by 40%, and all snack products will have a 2+1 promotion.


Warehouse discount store Traders will also participate in the DAY1 event from the 30th to the 1st. Domestic chilled pork belly of grade 1 or higher and Zespri Jeju Gold Kiwi (1.3 kg) will be discounted by 10,000 won and 3,000 won respectively when Shinsegae points are used.


Emart24 will run a giveaway event from January 1 to 12 next year. For 18 popular products including coffee drinks, protein drinks, hot bars, and cup noodles, they will offer '1+1' deals and a generous free benefit of a 5,000 won coupon when paying 5,000 won or more using the event payment method.


Shinsegae L&B’s Wine & More will hold an event from December 30 to January 5. Limited quantities of popular whiskies, Yamazaki 12 Years and Macallan 15 Years Double Cask, will be sold with 180 bottles and 100 bottles available respectively.


Online affiliates Gmarket and Auction will run the DAY1 promotion continuously for seven days from December 30 to January 5. To help customers feel real discounts amid high inflation, they have carefully selected best-selling domestic and international popular products mainly in lifestyle-related categories and will sell them at discounts of up to 70%. All members can receive a ‘12% discount coupon’ daily without any limit on the number of times it can be issued. There is also a ‘7% instant discount’ benefit from card companies, with discounts up to 10,000 won.


SSG.com will issue a maximum 12% product coupon applicable to Shinsegae Mall and Shinsegae Department Store Mall products once daily during the same period. From January 1 to 5, a 10% shopping cart coupon will be provided daily from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. In the grocery category, limited quantities of 10% shopping cart coupons will be issued twice daily at midnight and 9 a.m. for purchases of 70,000 won or more at Emart Mall, with discounts up to 10,000 won.


W Concept will issue 11 types of 'DAY1 Coupon Packs' including a 24% discount coupon that offers up to 40,000 won off on a first-come, first-served basis every day at 10 a.m. from January 1 until 10 a.m. on January 8.
