Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has opened a dog park under Songjeong Bridge near Songjeong Sports Park in the Songjeong-dong area.

The newly established dog park was created to meet the increasing demand for dog parks due to the growing population of dog owners. The district prepared this space to provide an area where dogs can run freely, aiming to reduce behavioral problems and resolve social conflicts caused by dogs.

Previously, the River Act prohibited grazing or raising livestock within river zones, but it was finally amended last July. With the legalization of dog-related facilities along riverbanks, Seongdong-gu utilized the idle space under Songjeong Bridge along Jungnangcheon Stream to open the dog park.

The dog park, covering a total area of 770㎡, operates by separating spaces for large dogs and medium/small dogs to ensure safe use. Only registered dogs accompanied by their owners are allowed entry. It is open 24 hours a day, year-round, without scheduled closures, but may close during severe weather conditions such as heavy rain or snow to prevent accidents.

The park is equipped with benches, dog play equipment, urinals, and waste bag dispensers for the convenience of both owners and their dogs. Additionally, lighting fixtures have been installed for use after sunset, and closed-circuit (CCTV) cameras enable real-time monitoring.

Meanwhile, in January this year, Seongdong-gu reorganized the 'Pet Policy Team' from the Department of Regional Economy to the Department of Women and Family, reflecting the concept that pets are also 'family' who should share happiness together.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "The Songjeong dog park will provide a safe leisure space and enjoyment for pet families in the area," adding, "We will make further efforts at the district level to ensure pets can healthily become part of the family."
