Total Project Cost of 38 Billion KRW
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 27th that the project to build a Southern Region Veterans Recreation Center has been included in next year’s government budget.
According to Geochang-gun, on August 29th, County Governor Gu In-mo met with Minister Park Min-sik of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to propose the construction of the Southern Region Veterans Recreation Center in Geochang. Following this, after site visits by ministry officials, a feasibility study commissioned by the county, and visits to the National Assembly, through persistent efforts, 100 million KRW was allocated in the 2024 government budget for the feasibility study research project for the Southern Region Veterans Recreation Center. The total project cost is approximately 38 billion KRW.

With the inclusion of this research budget, the county has laid the groundwork to build the Southern Region Veterans Recreation Center. Once established, the center is expected not only to bring innovation to welfare services for veterans’ families but also to revitalize the local economy and counteract regional depopulation by increasing the resident population due to a rise in tourists.
Starting in January next year, the county plans to promptly visit the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to establish a close cooperative system to ensure the research project proceeds swiftly. Additionally, they will actively cooperate to ensure the Veterans Recreation Center is built in Geochang-gun.
The inclusion of this research budget can be seen as the result of comprehensive efforts by Geochang-gun, members of the National Assembly, the county council, and Gyeongsangnam-do working together as one.
Governor Gu said, “We will do our best to achieve good results in the feasibility study research,” adding, “We will explore every possible way to build the Veterans Recreation Center, accelerate the era of 2 million forest tourism visitors, and contribute to revitalizing the local commercial district.”
