Pilot installation at 2 locations this year, total 208 including 206 locations next year... Quick connection to local police station in emergencies... Emergency bell enables automatic reporting and communication
Guro-gu is promoting a project to install emergency call bells in senior centers.
The district will install emergency call bells that are directly connected to the police station to enhance the safety of senior centers. In case of an emergency, pressing the bell will automatically report to the 112 situation room, and wireless communication will be possible for prompt response.
Following the rise in the importance of public safety due to random stabbing incidents that occurred nationwide last summer in places such as Sillim-dong and Seohyeon Station, the district is carrying out this project with the cooperation of the Guro Police Station and the District Council (Special Committee on Safety Management).
In September, the district conducted a pilot installation of emergency call bells at Songhak Senior Center located in the industrial area and the Oryu 2-dong Senior Center located in the market alley.
To ensure the safety of all elderly people using the senior centers, the district plans to expand the installation of emergency call bells to 206 senior centers in the district following the two pilot locations.
To enable seniors to report emergencies without panic, the emergency call bells will be installed in visible places such as the living rooms and entrances of the senior centers.
The installation of emergency bells will be carried out sequentially starting from January next year, and the district will bear and manage the operating costs (communication fees) associated with using the LTE network.
Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, stated, “Due to the nature of senior centers, which are accessible to anyone and where elderly people gather, there are vulnerabilities in public safety,” and added, “We hope that the installation of emergency call bells will make senior centers safe and comfortable places for rest.”
