The People Power Party criticized the claim by Nam Young-shin, the wife of former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil, that his arrest over allegations of distributing money envelopes during the Democratic Party leadership election was a political scheme.

Kim Min-soo, spokesperson for the People Power Party, referred to Nam's statement made at a press conference in front of the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the 22nd, saying, "Despite the sordid reality being revealed involving money politics that shook the foundation of democracy, violations of the Political Funds Act, and bribery charges, their consistent attitude without remorse is truly a case of 'like husband, like wife'."
He continued, "The Democratic Party has claimed prosecutorial oppression whenever illegal acts by its members were exposed," and questioned, "Should those who make the laws in the Republic of Korea mock the law at their convenience and destroy the rule of law?"
He also pointed out, "There are over 20 current Democratic Party lawmakers suspected of involvement in the money envelope scandal," adding, "This is enough to form a negotiation group composed of lawmakers with corruption charges." He claimed, "Those involved in crimes collectively deny their involvement while eyeing nomination opportunities, and the Democratic Party tolerates this," and further stated, "The Democratic Party is truly becoming a refuge for criminals."
He added, "The reason the Democratic Party is plunging into a moral catastrophe is because it repeatedly covers up the problem instead of timely removing the infected parts."
Furthermore, Kim emphasized, "Ahead of next year's general election, I hope a filter is created within the Democratic Party to sift out pollutants for the sake of the people," and stressed, "I hope that the qualification to represent the people of the Republic of Korea is not given to criminals."
