According to the legal community on the 22nd, Judge Jo Aram of the Criminal Division 7 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Kim, who was charged with threats and obstruction of official duties by deception, to one year in prison with a two-year suspension and ordered 240 hours of community service. The court explained the sentencing by stating, "Despite the period when swift and strong police response guidelines to brutal crime threats were continuously reported, Kim purchased a community account certified by the National Police Agency and posted a message claiming he would commit murder without any sense of guilt, which reflects the serious nature of the crime."

It added, "This caused a significant waste of public authority and many citizens likely experienced considerable anxiety and inconvenience," but also noted, "Considering that Kim admitted to the crime and showed remorse, and deleted the post within about three minutes, indicating no actual intent to proceed with murder."

Kim was previously indicted for posting a message titled "I will stab someone tonight at Exit 1 of Gangnam Station" on a community bulletin board using a police officer account on August 21.
