Gamman Pier No.1 Civil Engineering, Replacement of Aging Facilities
Capacity Upgrade from 3 Levels to 5 Levels, Efficiency Improvement Expected
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) has begun major improvement works on key facilities in preparation for the relocation of Bukhang Pier.
On the 22nd, BPA announced that the current operator of Jaseongdae Pier, Korea Hutchison Terminal, is steadily progressing with facility improvement works at Gammam Pier Berth 1, which is scheduled to be relocated in the first half of next year.
To ensure smooth operation of Gammam Pier Berth 1, BPA completed civil engineering works on the 19th, which began in June with an investment of over 6 billion KRW. The works included installing new concrete supports for the container yard, paving and painting the yard tractor driving lanes, and the cargo handling areas.
With these facility improvements, the container stacking capacity at Gammam Pier Berth 1 has increased from 3 tiers to 5 tiers, enhancing the efficiency of pier operations and yard management while improving safety.
Additionally, to ensure stable power supply to the pier, ongoing improvement works are being carried out on major electrical facilities, including replacement of aging power cables, installation of additional underground conduits, and repairs to the refrigerated container yard facilities. These works are scheduled to be completed by early next year.
Lee Sang-kwon, BPA Vice President of Construction, stated, “We will ensure timely completion of electrical and construction works for the improvement of Gammam Pier Berth 1 facilities to avoid any disruption to Korea Hutchison Terminal’s pier operations.”
Following the selection of Dongwon Busan Container Terminal, the former operator of New Gammam Pier, as the operator of the New Port West Container Pier and its subsequent relocation to the New Port, BPA publicly recruited operators for the new piers (New Gammam Pier and Gammam Pier Berth 1) and has finally selected Korea Hutchison Terminal, the current operator of Jaseongdae Pier.
Korea Hutchison Terminal will relocate to New Gammam Pier and Gammam Pier Berth 1 in the first half of next year.
