Prosecutor General Byeon Pil-geon Discloses Assets of 41.8 Billion Won... Son Jun-sung in 'Alleged Report Solicitation' Holds 1.98 Billion Won

Byun Pil-geon, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Suwon High Prosecutors' Office (48 years old, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 30), was confirmed to have the largest amount of assets among current officials in the Ministry of Justice and prosecution. According to the 'September 2023 Interim Asset Registration of Senior Public Officials' disclosed by the Government Official Ethics Committee on the 22nd, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Byun reported assets worth 41,831,558,000 KRW.

Among these are buildings worth approximately 8.06 billion KRW, including an apartment in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu under his wife's name (6.46 billion KRW), a commercial building in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu (250 million KRW), and a lodging facility pre-sale right in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do (400 million KRW). He also reported 13 pieces of artwork, including prints and Western paintings, worth about 960 million KRW, and land worth 1.69 billion KRW in Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, all under his wife's name.

The person who reported the second largest amount of assets was Lee Jong-yeop, Chairman of the Korea Legal Aid Corporation, with 8,471,484,000 KRW. Chairman Lee reported land worth 4.22 billion KRW and deposits of 1.87 billion KRW, among other assets.

The person who reported the smallest amount of assets was Park Ki-dong, Head of the Public Investigation Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office (51 years old, class 30). Prosecutor Park was found to have total assets of 594,107,000 KRW. These include land worth 6.6 million KRW in Dalseong-gun, Daegu Metropolitan City, an apartment in Dongjak-dong, Dongjak-gu valued at 740 million KRW, deposits of 56.89 million KRW, and debts of 310 million KRW.

The assets of Son Jun-sung, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Daegu High Prosecutors' Office (49 years old, class 29), who became a target of impeachment by the Democratic Party over allegations of 'prosecution collusion,' were confirmed to be 1,981,017,000 KRW. Prosecutor Son reported buildings worth 3.43 billion KRW, including a commercial building in Gwanhun-dong, Jongno-gu, and an apartment in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, both under his spouse's name. He also reported deposits of 140 million KRW and debts of 1.64 billion KRW.
