The contaminated water to be transferred this time is 7,800 tons of the 5th discharge target contaminated water, which will be discharged from April next year to March 2025. It is planned to be moved from the storage tanks to measurement tanks starting in January next year. The 6th discharge contaminated water, which will be discharged afterward, is expected to be transferred around March next year. The planned discharge volume is about 7,800 tons, similar to the previous 1st to 5th discharges.

Until the 3rd discharge, which ended on the 20th of last month, the contaminated water in the measurement tanks was sent directly to the sea, but starting from the 4th discharge scheduled to begin in late February next year, an additional step of transferring contaminated water from the storage tanks to the measurement tanks will be added. TEPCO has been conducting tank-to-tank transfer operations for the 4th discharge target contaminated water until the 11th of this month.
