The Supreme Court's Judicial Administration Office has decided not to implement the 'Court President Candidate Recommendation System' in next year's regular judicial personnel appointments.
Kim Sang-hwan, head of the Judicial Administration Office, announced this on the 21st through a notice titled 'Remarks on the 2024 Regular Judicial Personnel Appointments' posted on the court's internal network.
Kim stated, "Regarding the Court President Candidate Recommendation System, which has been in place for the past five years, various opinions have been raised both inside and outside the court, and there are diverse views on what the ideal form of court president appointments should be. Moving forward, it is necessary to calmly review the experience gained so far, conduct a thorough performance analysis, and gather sufficient opinions from court members to continuously consider and improve the principles and procedures for appointing court presidents."
He continued, "However, the remaining schedule is too tight to immediately prepare a reasonable improvement plan and smoothly implement it in this year's regular judicial personnel appointments. Considering this, the Court President Candidate Recommendation System will not be implemented in the 2024 regular judicial personnel appointments, and a suitable candidate with excellent character and judicial ability will be appointed as court president."
Kim also stated, "The newly appointed court presidents will be assigned to their respective courts ahead of other judges to familiarize themselves with the current status and challenges of the court and to prepare well for the duties of the court president, such as task allocation. The appointment date is scheduled for February 5, 2024."
