Dong-Eui University Fencing Team and Kazakhstan Junior National Fencing Team Joint Training

4 Coaches and 19 Players Visit, Training Held at Dong-Eui University Fencing Hall from 21 to 24

The Dong-Eui University Fencing Team (Coach Han Woori) has been conducting joint training with the Kazakhstan Junior National Sabre Fencing Team from December 21 to 24.

This training is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, and is hosted and organized by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and the Korea Fencing Federation. The Kazakhstan Junior National Fencing Team visiting Dong-Eui University consists of 4 coaches and 19 athletes, who are training hard alongside 24 Dong-Eui University fencing team members at the Dong-Eui University fencing hall.

Kazakhstan’s head coach Evgeny Diyakokin said, “We have had a long-standing relationship with the Korean national team and know many athletes. We hope the good relationship with fencing powerhouse Korea continues, and it is an honor to practice with Korea’s excellent athletes in such a great environment.”

Additionally, Dong-Eui University fencing team coach Han Woori stated, “Even highly skilled athletes often fail to perform at their best in international competitions due to nervousness. Joint training with foreign athletes helps reduce tension towards foreign competitors and greatly contributes to improving performance.”

In November, the Dong-Eui University fencing team won the women’s sabre team championship at the 24th National Men’s and Women’s University Fencing Championships held at the Useul Dongbaek Gymnasium in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do. In March of this year, male athletes Yoon Yong-jin (1st year, Department of Physical Education) and Hwang Hee-seong (1st year, Department of Physical Education), and female athletes Jang Ji-won (2nd year, Department of Leisure Sports) and Kim Na-ae (2nd year, Department of Leisure Sports) were selected for the 2023 Sabre Youth National Fencing Team. Currently, national fencing representatives Gu Bon-gil, Kim Jun-ho, Do Kyung-dong, Yoon Ji-soo, Choi Soo-yeon, and Ji Young-kyung are all alumni of the Dong-Eui University fencing team.
