On the 21st, Naju City in Jeollanam-do posted and announced the 2023 Youth Statistics on the city hall website, which objectively breaks down the lives of local youth and overall social trends.
According to the city on the day, the youth statistics were conducted to secure basic data for discovering and systematically promoting youth package (employment, housing, culture) policy projects, one of the three core strategies of the 8th municipal administration.
As of December 31, 2022, the statistics covered 102 indicators across six sectors including population and households, economy, employment, startups, welfare, and health, targeting youth aged 18 to 45 registered as residents in Naju City.
According to the main statistical results, the youth population was 37,802, accounting for 32.5% of the city’s total population (116,456 as of December 31, 2022).
This is 4% lower than the national youth population ratio of 36.5%, but 3.1% higher than Jeollanam-do’s youth population ratio of 29.4%.
The area with the largest youth population was Bitgaram-dong, which accounted for 48.4% of the total with 18,299 people, followed by Nampyeong-eup (3,597), Songwol-dong (3,059), Seongbuk-dong (2,962), and Geumcheon-myeon (1,524).
Among the youth, 55.9% have spouses, and newlywed couples married less than five years numbered 2,925 pairs. The average age at first marriage was 34.52 years for men and 31.59 years for women.
There were 5,388 homeowners, accounting for 14.3% of the total youth population. The total number of houses was 7,175, with an average ownership of 1.33 houses per person.
The number of employed youth was 24,800, recording an employment rate of 66.5%. The industry sectors with the highest employment were business, personal, and public services at 40.8% (11,000 people). The electricity, transportation, communication, and finance sectors followed with 16.1% (4,000 people), and wholesale, retail, and accommodation and food services accounted for 15.7% (3,900 people).
By occupation, office workers made up 30.1% (7,500 people), managers and professionals 22.7% (5,600 people), and service and sales workers 17.6% (4,400 people).
Additionally, 54,981 youth were enrolled in the National Pension, and 39,288 were covered by health insurance. Among them, 25,004 were workplace subscribers, 10,068 were regional subscribers, and 4,216 were government officials and teachers.

The city plans to analyze and publish youth statistics every three years to use them as sustainable youth policy data.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “The youth statistics published this time are a comprehensive report to understand the situations faced by youth and to establish practical support policies. Based on these statistics, we will strive to discover accurate and reliable policies so that young people can enjoy quality jobs, housing conditions, and abundant cultural life, and settle stably in the region.”
