Bitsrosis Acquires Autonomous Driving Technology from ETRI... "Targeting Autonomous Driving Market Including Electric Agricultural Machinery"

Bitsrosis is set to enter the autonomous driving market by acquiring autonomous driving technology from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of Korea. Unlike global autonomous driving technology leaders such as Tesla, Google, and Apple, which focus on universal autonomous driving, the company plans to concentrate on non-universal autonomous driving markets such as electric agricultural machinery.

Global smart city solution company Bitsrosis (CEO Ki-jae Lee) announced on the 21st that it has signed a business agreement and technology transfer contract with ETRI related to multi-sensor fusion autonomous driving AI/SW technology. The company has acquired autonomous vehicle recognition technology that combines LiDAR and cameras, making it robust in nighttime and rainy conditions.

The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of Min Ok-ki, Director of ETRI’s Institute of Superintelligence and Creativity, Jeong-dan Choi, Head of Department, Kyung-wook Min, Manager, Ki-jae Lee, CEO of Bitsrosis, and Deuk-chan Jeon, Executive Director of the research institute. Through the business agreement, both organizations will cooperate in supporting the development of multi-sensor fusion autonomous driving AI/SW technology and operating services in the Ulsan autonomous vehicle pilot zone.

Since 2021, Bitsrosis has been collaborating with ETRI, Ulsan City, and Woosoo AMS on the ‘Development and Demonstration Project of Autonomous Vehicles for Non-Urban Areas.’ Through this three-year project, the autonomous vehicle (Carnival) and control system developed are being utilized in the Ulsan autonomous vehicle pilot zone service.

On November 29, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport designated a 1.8 km section from the Industry-Academia Convergence Zone in Ulsan Techno General Industrial Complex to Hoban Verdiium in the Grand Park as an autonomous vehicle pilot zone. Earlier this year, ETRI participated in the first and second phases of autonomous driving tests at the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute’s K-CITY and received a permit from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in May.

ETRI’s Institute of Superintelligence and Creativity is conducting research and development on 12 national strategic technologies, including artificial intelligence, advanced mobility robots, and materials and components technology. Based on these technologies, ETRI plays a pioneering role in creating a happy future world through research and development utilizing digital innovation.

Bitsrosis possesses development technologies and experience in building Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Bus Information Systems (BIS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and Urban Traffic Information Systems (UTIS). Its major achievements include the Jeju Next-Generation Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) demonstration project, Daejeon Traffic Information Center, Seoul Bus Information System, and the establishment of unmanned traffic enforcement equipment for the National Police Agency, completing over 200 nationwide projects.

The company’s next-generation intelligent transportation system uses V2X (vehicle to everything) communication to enable vehicles to exchange information with each other and with infrastructure, allowing for the early detection of hazards and unexpected situations. This technology is essential for the surrounding infrastructure environment necessary for autonomous driving.
