With a heavy snow warning in effect across Gwangju since the 20th, Seo-gu has over 70 staff from key departments including the Safety General Division, Construction Division, Parks and Greenery Division, and Traffic Guidance Division, as well as 18 neighborhoods, working on 24-hour emergency duty. At 6 a.m. that day, an emergency duty order was issued to all employees to carry out snow removal operations within Seo-gu.

Additionally, continuous snow removal is being conducted on 32 vulnerable routes totaling 41.77 km among the main arterial roads in Seo-gu. The brine spraying device on the slope of Songam Industrial Complex and the smart liquid snow removal boxes installed on slopes of side roads are also in operation.

Operations of 277 cold wave shelters and the normal functioning of heated seats at bus stops are being checked. Furthermore, thorough safety management has been requested from those responsible for 86 vinyl greenhouses and 22 construction and building sites.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, snow is expected to continue until the 22nd. Accordingly, Seo-gu will maintain the emergency duty system and strengthen the collaborative response system between the district office, neighborhoods, and self-governing organizations through frequent patrols and situation sharing in freezing-prone areas.

Mayor Kim I-gang of Seo-gu said, “As temperatures drop overnight, more freezing sections are expected. Please carefully monitor even shaded side roads where heavy equipment deployment is difficult and do your best to ensure residents' safety.”

He added, “Please also work to foster a safety culture where the authorities act proactively and residents voluntarily participate in snow removal in front of their homes or shops.”
