POSCO Corporate Citizen Friends is an organization formed since 2019 by POSCO and suppliers wishing to participate in social contribution activities, practicing the corporate citizen management philosophy together.
This year, they newly launched the 'Friends New Home' project to build and repair houses in collaboration with specialized institutions in the Gwangyang and Pohang areas to support vulnerable housing groups.
This house-building project aims to help neighbors in the Gwangyang area, where POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks is located, who are struggling to secure adequate housing. In April, POSCO, along with suppliers and partners, participated in the 'Hope House Building' project by donating 20 million KRW to the Jeonnam Eastern Branch of Habitat for Humanity Korea through a groundbreaking ceremony.
Additionally, in August, about 100 employees of Corporate Citizen Friends visited the construction site in person to volunteer in making wooden structures, including door and window frames.
The completed buildings through the Hope House Building project will accommodate 10 households, providing a new home for neighbors in need of assistance.
Kim Taeok, Head of POSCO Equipment and Materials Purchasing Office, said, "I am pleased to be able to help create warm homes that can be gifted to vulnerable housing groups in the local community this year together with suppliers," adding, "We will continue to spread the spirit of POSCO Corporate Citizenship and make the local community warmer."
Kim Myeonghun, Volunteer Leader of Gwangyang Corporate Citizen Friends (CEO of Gwangyang Co., Ltd.), said, "I hope that all families moving into the houses built through the hard work of POSCO and local suppliers will achieve new hopes and dreams."
Meanwhile, POSCO is carrying out various win-win growth activities such as performance-sharing systems and support for smart factory establishment to build a mutually beneficial cycle with suppliers. The Gwangyang Steelworks also actively practices the corporate citizen management philosophy by continuing various social contribution activities, including 47 talent volunteer groups.
