Busan City Signs 'Agreement on Establishing Busan Environmental Experience Education Center and Promoting Climate and Environmental Education'

Successful Promotion of Busan Environmental Experience Education Center Establishment and Activa

On the 21st at 10:20 AM, Busan City will sign a “Busan Environmental Experience Education Center Establishment and Climate·Environmental Education Activation Business Agreement” at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education’s 1st Conference Room with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yoon-su), National Assembly member Kim Mi-ae (Haeundae-gu Eul), and Haeundae District Office (District Mayor Kim Seong-su).

At the agreement ceremony, Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Superintendent Ha Yoon-su, National Assembly member Kim Mi-ae, and Haeundae District Mayor Kim Seong-su will attend in person to sign the business agreement.

This business agreement was prepared to pledge mutual cooperation among related organizations for the establishment of the Busan Environmental Experience Education Center and the activation of climate and environmental education centered around it.

The Busan Environmental Experience Education Center will serve as a hub facility for climate and environmental education in the Busan area linked with schools and local communities. The city has been promoting the establishment of the Busan Environmental Experience Education Center in collaboration with the Office of Education since 2021, and the site for the center is the closed (former) Banyeo Elementary School located in Haeundae-gu.

Once this agreement is signed, each organization will mutually cooperate in ▲ education in environmental fields such as climate environment to respond to the climate crisis and realize carbon neutrality ▲ development and distribution of programs (teaching materials, videos, and other content) for students and citizens ▲ promotion and cooperation of community-linked projects for the operation of the Busan Environmental Experience Education Center ▲ administrative and financial cooperation for the smooth establishment of the Busan Environmental Experience Education Center.

The city explained that this agreement is significant in that it consolidates the capabilities of the local community for the successful promotion of the establishment of the Busan Environmental Experience Education Center and the activation of climate and environmental education.

The city was recognized for establishing and implementing a systematic environmental education policy linked to the vision of “Green Smart City Busan” and was designated as a “Statutory Environmental Education City” by the Ministry of Environment for three years starting in 2024.

Once the Busan Environmental Experience Education Center is successfully established and operated, it is expected to become a sustainable environmental education driving platform for Busan as an “Environmental Education City” focused on guaranteeing environmental learning rights throughout life cycles and realizing carbon neutrality centered on the local community.

Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “In the era of the climate crisis, raising citizen awareness and changing behavior for a sustainable future and the realization of a carbon-neutral society are of utmost importance, and environmental education is the solution to convey that importance.” He added, “This agreement will serve as a catalyst for responding to the climate and environmental crisis and realizing a sustainable future through close cooperation with the local community. Our city will continue to strengthen the foundation for local environmental education to guarantee the environmental learning rights of Busan citizens and activate climate and environmental education.”
