Increased Possibility of New 'Dongyongin IC' on Sejong-Pocheon Expressway

The possibility of establishing the 'Dongyongin IC' on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway, promoted by Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province, has increased.

Yongin City announced on the 21st that the economic feasibility analysis by the Korea Expressway Corporation for the new Dongyongin IC project on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway showed a benefit-cost ratio (B/C) of 1.13.

A B/C ratio exceeding 1 means that the benefits outweigh the costs, indicating the project's economic feasibility. Previously, based on its own feasibility review showing a B/C of 1.1, the city submitted the analysis results to the Korea Expressway Corporation in April.

The Dongyongin IC new construction project involves building a regular interchange for entry and exit to the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway by the end of 2028 in the areas of Songmun and Jubuk-ri, Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, and Mapyeong-dong.

Since the IC connection point will link to the 'Yongin International Logistics 4.0' logistics complex located in Gorim-dong, Cheoin-gu, the project cost of 93.6 billion KRW will be fully borne by Yongin Joongsim Co., Ltd., the developer of the logistics complex.

The city plans to sign an agreement with the Korea Expressway Corporation and others early next year to proceed with detailed design, then obtain connection approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the competent authority, to advance the project.

The city expects that once the IC is established, it will not only connect easily to the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway but also to the Yeongdong Expressway, improving highway accessibility for local residents and businesses.

In particular, south of the planned IC site are Samsung Electronics' Icheon and Namsa 'Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' and SK Hynix's 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster,' so the project is also expected to improve the transportation network of major semiconductor hubs.

Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, said, "With the establishment of Dongyongin IC, there will be three ICs in the Yongin section of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway," adding, "It will serve as a gateway organically connecting the core points of the Yongin semiconductor belt and will also enhance transportation convenience for citizens."
