Mapo-gu to Illuminate Public Night Pharmacies (10 PM to 1 AM) in 2024

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kang-su) announced on the 21st that, following Seoul City's decision to discontinue the public night pharmacy project at the end of this month, it will independently operate the Mapo-style public night pharmacy in 2024 to ensure the health and safety of its residents.

The public night pharmacy is a pharmacy that operates from 10 PM to 1 AM the next day, 365 days a year, allowing residents to safely purchase medicines under the guidance of a pharmacist during late-night hours when most pharmacies are closed.

Until now, the public night pharmacy project had been operated with support from Seoul City. However, with Seoul City's support ending on December 31, 2023, residents faced situations where they could not purchase medicines in urgent circumstances.

In response, Mapo-gu decided to operate the Mapo-style public night pharmacy solely with district funds to promote the healthy lives of its residents. Thanks to Mapo-gu's prompt action, residents will continue to use the public night pharmacy with peace of mind during nights and holidays.

Currently, Mapo-gu's public night pharmacies are located near Mangwon Station at Biondu Supsok Pharmacy (111 World Cup-ro) and near Hapjeong Station at Sel Pharmacy (72 Yanghwa-ro). Mapo-gu selected pharmacies near subway stations for convenient accessibility.

Pharmacist Jang Young-ok of Biondu Supsok Pharmacy said, "I was concerned about the inconvenience to residents due to the end of Seoul City's project, but I am glad that we can continue operating with Mapo-gu's support," adding, "I will work hard next year with a sense of mission to protect the health of our residents."

Mapo-gu plans to promote the Mapo-style public night pharmacy widely so that many residents can use it and intends to expand support in the future based on resident demand and response.

Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "Public night pharmacies are especially essential for children and the elderly, so I believed they must continue operating even if Seoul City's support is discontinued," and added, "If you feel unwell late at night when visiting a hospital is difficult, please use the Mapo-style public night pharmacy without delay to ensure you do not neglect your health management."
