Woo Hyeong-chan, Vice Chairman of Seoul Metropolitan Council, Declares Full-Scale Launch of 'Yangcheon Subway Era'

Woo Hyeong-chan, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, held a founding meeting on the 20th with citizens of Yangcheon-gu to establish the organization 'Yangcheon Subway Era' and officially began activities to promote faster subway projects in Yangcheon.

The founding meeting was held on the 2nd floor of Yeolbang Church in Yangcheon-gu, where the formal launch of 'Yangcheon Subway Era' was declared, and officers were elected along with the resolution of various agendas.

Woo Hyeong-chan, elected as the representative of 'Yangcheon Subway Era' on the day, stated, “The Yangcheon Subway Era is a long-cherished wish of Yangcheon-gu, and although there are still many challenges to overcome, we will unite the will and strength of the citizens to resolve them as soon as possible and thereby promote the development of Yangcheon,” presenting the vision of ‘Subway Era, New Yangcheon.’

The main projects of 'Yangcheon Subway Era' include ▲ policy research and activities to promote the light rail Mokdong Line and Gangbuk Transversal Line ▲ citizen actions for the rapid advancement of the Daejang-Hongdae Line project ▲ research, policy studies, and citizen activities for the relocation of Sinjeong Vehicle Depot ▲ support for Yangcheon’s pending projects to enhance the BC (Benefit-Cost) analysis of each project, and other multifaceted activities for the Yangcheon subway era.

The Mokdong Line and Gangbuk Transversal Line, which are key to Yangcheon-gu’s transportation, have been included in the 2nd Urban Railway Network Construction Plan since 2020 and are currently undergoing preliminary feasibility studies, with results expected soon.

Woo Hyeong-chan, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council and head of the organization, has worked for eight years on subway issues, the Sinjeong Vehicle Depot, and the development of the Western Truck Terminal as chairman of the Transportation Committee during his legislative tenure. Representing the voices of Seoul citizens living in transportation blind spots, he continues steady efforts and has called for bipartisan cooperation to open the Yangcheon Subway Era, setting aside political colors.

Vice Chairman Woo emphasized that the core of regional development is ‘transportation,’ with subway issues being urgent. He stated, “We will spare no effort, both inside and outside, to realize the visible Daejang-Hongdae Line, Mokdong Line, and Gangbuk Transversal Line, completing the balanced transportation development of Seoul.”
