It was revealed that the man who made a mess of an unmanned store in Wonju, Gangwon Province, was a high school student.

The Wonju Police Station announced on the 20th that they have booked a high school student, A (16), on charges of property damage for damaging goods and fixtures inside the unmanned store.

A entered the unmanned store operated by Kim (43) in Dangu-dong, Wonju, at around 3:40 a.m. on the 16th, took snacks, and tried to pay at the kiosk, but when the payment did not go through as intended, he is accused of breaking several devices inside the store, including the payment machine.

The closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed in the unmanned store at the time captured A moving around as if intoxicated, kicking the shelves holding products, throwing items with his hands, and causing a commotion for about 40 minutes.

During this, A also raised his tattooed arm and made a V sign with his fingers.

The police investigating the case identified A as the man in the CCTV footage based on his appearance and characteristics, such as wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt and having a tattooed arm, after conducting inquiries.

Considering that A is a teenage high school student, the police plan to transfer the case to the juvenile division for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the CCTV also captured another scene. About 40 minutes after A’s rampage, another man, B, passing by the unmanned store, picked up the products scattered in front of the store and moved them inside.

B tidied up the items lying outside and put them back into the store, then called the owner’s number displayed on the sign outside the building to report the damage.

The owner, who answered B’s call while half asleep, expressed gratitude for the great help. B responded that anyone would have done the same in that situation.
