Dyson CMF Team Leading Research on Product Color, Material, and Finish Design
Focused on User Perspective Throughout the Entire Process
British home appliance company Dyson has launched a set of three haircare gift edition products for the year-end season. The design, materials, and colors are receiving praise for being as unique as their functionality.
According to Dyson on the 20th, the three haircare products feature a contrast between Blue Blush color and pastel-toned Blush Pink color, attracting attention. The secret lies with the CMF (Colour, Materials and Finishes) team responsible for colors and materials. Established in 2016, Dyson's CMF team focuses on researching product colors, materials, and finish designs to create Dyson's unique sensibility. This 'Blue Blush Gift Edition' was also developed under the leadership of the CMF team.
Dyson has applied a variety of colors to its products over time. They view color not simply as a means to visually enhance products but as an important design element directly connected to the product’s attributes, design approach, and manufacturing process.
The CMF team has expanded the product portfolio by developing new color combinations and finishes. The color combination of this gift edition is one of the results. Inspired by the powerful color of the semi-precious stone lapis lazuli, the Blue Blush color was applied. Alongside this, the Blush Pink color was created by reducing the metallic feel from the Fuchsia Pink color that marked the beginning of Dyson’s haircare product line.
Until now, Dyson’s haircare products have mainly featured glossy and metallic textures for finishing. However, the matte, non-glossy texture applied in this gift edition uses finishing methods commonly found in interior paints, kitchen countertops, and fabrics.
Additionally, all products underwent continuous friction and durability testing not only on the devices themselves but also on the materials and finishes. Representative tests include tensile testing to assist durability design and abrasion and scratch tests to verify the safety of the finishes.
A Dyson representative stated, "We will continue to develop products with innovative technology while using minimal resources and materials."
