Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 19th that it secured a total project cost of 167.1 billion KRW by being selected for 52 public contest projects this year, achieving the highest record since its establishment.
The county set a record of achieving '100 billion KRW' for two consecutive years, following 134.8 billion KRW last year.
Uiryeong-gun has been selected for public contest projects organized by government ministries and Gyeongsangnam-do at a scale of 20 to 30 billion KRW annually, such as 20 projects worth 22.8 billion KRW in 2019 and 26 projects worth 30.6 billion KRW in 2020. Since the inauguration of County Governor Oh Tae-wan in 2021, there has been a steep upward trend in performance. Starting with 47.7 billion KRW in 2021, it surpassed approximately 134.8 billion KRW last year, about three times more, and set a new record this year with 167.1 billion KRW.
This achievement was promoted by meticulously analyzing national priority tasks and key provincial government issues to achieve the goal of 'securing 100 billion KRW in public contest projects for two consecutive years.'
The major public contest projects selected this year include ▲ Rural Agreement (34.8 billion KRW) ▲ Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's job-linked support housing project (19 billion KRW) ▲ Aging water supply pipe maintenance project (12.7 billion KRW) ▲ Local extinction response fund (11 billion KRW) ▲ Jungdong District urban regeneration public contest project (31.5 billion KRW), among others. Achievements were made evenly across various policy areas such as rural development, residential area creation, and population crisis response.
In particular, the 'Jungdong District Urban Regeneration Public Contest Project (31.5 billion KRW)' selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 15th is expected to bring a new turnaround by increasing the living population through an experiential 'play-centered' urban branding in Jungdong District, the largest central area of Uiryeong-eup, over four years from 2024 to 2027.
Governor Oh Tae-wan said, “I am pleased that the theory that the Uiryeong-gun bus could not have started without the fuel of securing public contest project funds has blossomed into results. Everything is thanks to the dedication of public officials,” and added, “We will use the precious resources that will lead Uiryeong’s change solely for regional development and improving the quality of life of the residents.”
