G-Dragon Ultimately Cleared of Drug Charges... Gangnam Plastic Surgeon’s Arrest Warrant Reapplied

Police Do Not Prosecute Kwon
Entertainment Venue Manager Retracts Statement

Singer G-Dragon (35, real name Kwon Ji-yong), who was under investigation for drug use allegations, has been cleared of charges.

On the 19th, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit announced that G-Dragon, who was booked without detention on drug charges under the Narcotics Control Act, was not prosecuted as of the previous day.

The police plan to send the non-prosecution decision document to Kwon's side soon. When the police decide not to prosecute a case, the prosecution reviews the details for 90 days. If the prosecution does not request a reinvestigation afterward, the case is closed.

The police recently received intelligence that some individuals had used drugs at an entertainment establishment in Gangnam, Seoul, and investigated 10 people including Kwon and actor Lee Sun-kyun (48). After an internal investigation phase, Kwon was booked in October.

Earlier, the police investigated six people, including entertainers who visited the Gangnam entertainment establishment with Kwon and female employees of the venue, as witnesses, but reportedly failed to secure statements proving the charges. The entertainers who were witnesses reportedly gave their statements via phone calls without appearing in person at the police station.

G-Dragon has denied the allegations, stating, "I have not used drugs. I also clarify that I am unrelated to the recent news reports about violations of the Narcotics Control Act."

Based on the testimony of A (29, female), the manager of the entertainment establishment, the police suspected that Kwon used drugs at the venue in December last year and launched an investigation, but it was recently reported that A retracted her statement.

Additionally, G-Dragon tested negative in all tests, from a simple reagent test to detailed examinations (urine, hair, fingernails) conducted by the National Forensic Service. It is known that fingernail tests can detect drug use for about 5 to 6 months.

Meanwhile, the police have re-applied for an arrest warrant against B (42, male), a plastic surgeon in Gangnam suspected of providing drugs to Lee Sun-kyun, based on testimony from A, the entertainment establishment manager.

The prosecution reviewed the arrest warrant and filed it with the Incheon District Court. B's pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) is scheduled to be held on the 20th of this month, presided over by Judge Kim Sung-soo, who is in charge of warrants at the Incheon District Court.
