Icheon-si Holds New Year's Sunrise Event at Seolbong Park

Selection of the Four-Character Idiom '用涉大川' for the Year of the Blue Dragon

Gyeonggi-do Icheon City will hold the 2024 New Year's Sunrise Event on January 1st next year at the front yard of Icheon Cerafpia in Seolbong Park, Gwango-dong.

Hosted by Icheon City and co-organized by the Icheon Youth Chamber and Icheon Cultural Center, the 2024 Sunrise Event will feature participation from major local public institutions and social organizations such as Gonggandarak, Icheon City Alumni Association, Icheon City Forestry Cooperative, Icheon City Mountaineering Federation, Coral Choir, Rhythm & Theater, and the Korea Ceramic Foundation.

At the event, following the Rhythm & Theater's large drum performance starting at 6:50 AM, there will be a calligraphy performance writing the four-character idiom selected by the city. Icheon City has chosen "Yongseopdaecheon (用涉大川)" as the idiom for next year. This idiom means "By utilizing utmost humility, any hardship can be overcome."

Just before sunrise, a hope prayer ceremony will be held, including a libation ritual wishing for the fulfillment of citizens' desires. Then, at the sunrise time of 7:44 AM, the event will conclude with three cheers of "manse," the Coral Choir's finale performance, and the burning of the Daljip (traditional straw house).

Meanwhile, on the same day, small-scale individual sunrise events will also be held at Janghowon Baekjoksan and Bubal Hyoyangsan in Icheon City.
